What Is P&L in Trading?

P&L stands for Profit and Loss. It represents the financial result of a trading position — the difference between the price at which you enter a trade and the price at which you exit, multiplied by the number of units traded. A positive P&L means the trade is profitable; a negative P&L means a loss.

How to Calculate Profit and Loss

The basic formula is: P&L = (Exit Price − Entry Price) × Quantity. This calculator determines the asset quantity from your invested capital and entry price, then computes both the potential profit at your take profit level and the potential loss at your stop loss level.

How This Calculator Works

Enter four values: invested capital, entry price, take profit price, and stop loss price. The calculator shows the quantity of the asset you would acquire, the net profit if the take profit is reached, and the net loss if the stop loss is hit — all expressed in both absolute terms and as a percentage of your capital.

Example Calculation

Capital €250
Entry €100
Take Profit €110
Stop Loss €95

You acquire 2.5 units.

+€25 +10%
−€12.50 −5%
